Making the Movies Jealous

First of all, I would like to apologize with our absence.  Life changes all around, but I have found myself in limbo between apartments with no internet or cable.  Not as bad as one would expect.  I might even become one of those people that can say "Oh, no I don't know what trashy tv show you're talking about.  I don't even own a television."  Let's be real though, I miss me some American Idol, Gossip Girl, and Bones.  Hopefully after next week we will both be back up and running...and stronger than ever! (That was a pep talk for myself, fyi.)

Second of all, in the time being, I thought I'd share this ridiculously cute engagement.  It's been around the block a time or two, BUT it made me tear up sitting at my desk. Enjoy!

the Marcella

I had previously mentioned trying to do friend inspired wedding stylings back in the day.  The original idea was to have one every Friday, but seriously, life has this tendency of getting in the way.  It's funny how that happens, huh. This has been in the making for a long time now, so I figured I'd go ahead and get it done so I have no excuses to start the others! 

When the first couple posts started being viewed, a few friends emailed me inspiration weddings they liked.  Actually, some were weddings, some were dresses and some were just colors.  The funny thing is, none of these said friends are engaged.  It's reminiscent of sitting in my college dorm and picking out wedding colors and all the different styles we'd have depending on the season.  What, you didn't do that?

Marcella was the first one to send along a blog entry wedding from Green Wedding Shoes. So here we go!

The Inspiration Wedding

She had named a few key words as to what she had in mind as far as a venue was concerned.  Throwing all these instructions (and towns provided) out the window I settled on a little ole mansion in Austin.  Note: She went to school in Austin and it's the home of our Austin City Limits adventures.  It would make for a fun weekend if I do say so myself.

Now for the fun part, the bridesmaids.  I sent her an option of 3 colors, all neutralish (due to her inspiration).  She picked a light lavender, but I thought I'd mix in the greys and blushes that were the other options.

Above are the dresses from the inspiration shots she provided me.  I figured if she didn't want to copy exactly, I could also see her going the more traditional route in something classic below.

The accessories might not be quite on par, but I could see her wearing ridiculously fun shoes with jewelry with some sort of family sentiment to the pieces.  A girl's got to have the something borrowed!

Washington Post: Royal Wedding Dress Contest

Back in the begining of march I recieved two similar emails within the same week.  Each was forwarded from a friend.  One being forwarded on behalf of her coworker, and one on behalf of her boyfriend.  Both of these supportive fellas wanted me to enter a sketch in the Washington Post's Royal Wedding Dress contest.  After the first email, I looked up the rules, thought it'd be fun but didn't think much else of it.  After the second email I was like hmmm maybe I should actually just do it for fun.  Seeing as my resolution for 2011 is to make it the year of actions and follow through, maybe this could be my first step.  After a week of deadlines at work, and the sketch deadline fast approaching I decided to submitt whatever I could get done. This is what was produced...

I (not being well versed in royal wedding edicate) did not realize it's tradition for the bride to wear long sleeves...oops?  C'est la vie! 

The idea was to have a cap sleeve lace over coat to wear over a sleevless (once again, oops) gown for the ceramony.  For the reception, the crazy veil and coat could be shed to make getting down with her badself easier (aka dancing...she looks like she's the type to be the first one on the floor).  I didn't really think about actually explaining myself/ideas on the drawing itself, details details. 

What am I getting at here, right?  Well my top sketch (with the coat, because I also didn't think about putting them all on the same sheet) made it into the top 5 of the contest!  This means the public (you all...mostly friends and family) get to vote for your favorite design! (cough cough, mine!)

Royal Wedding Dress Contest

Ok, I will not begrudge you if you pick the one in color.  It is well drawn, clean and portrays the design in a very professional manor, BUT if you want to be my friend then...you know what to do! (I'm shameless.)

Sentimental Sense of Humor

My friend Liz over at Reston Style introduced me to a couple new local fashion bloggers. Seeing as I'm not really "in the scene" I tend to just fly under the radar and steal & credit when I come across something I enjoy.  This being said, I was introduce (via email) to Tierney of Ruby Woo Loves You and saw these bad boys by shopsaplingpress.  (That was a lot of linking for me!)

Funny cards, but-where-am-I-going-with-this, right?  Hop on my thought process train.  The day I saw these cards, was the day I found out one of my San Fran girls had gone and gotten herself engaged.  (YAY!)  That will be a whole post within itself, but for now this is where my mind went.  Awesome/ hilarious people getting engaged...I wonder how he did it (they sent a pic and then hopped on a plane to Chile for 3 weeks, so I'm letting my imagination take over for the time being).

They actually probably had a low key engagement, but how cute would it be to incorporate these cards into a scavenger hunt of some sort.  IE funny card on the outside, with a sentimental note on the inside and a clue to where to fine the next card...all leading to someone on one knee with a diamond ring or alternative if you're not into diamonds).  Just saying, that could be cute, no? 

This also caught my attention of how to "pop" the question.  Oh. Puns.

A Treehouse Affair

TreeHouse Point's link has been sitting in my favorites folder at work for awhile now.  Two years ago, I had the intention to add it to my work blog for architectural inspiration.  Well...that never happened, oops.

I had a foggy association with a wedding whenever I would pull it up, and now I remember why! While thumbing through a (now null and void) wedding blog, C is for...Charmed, I realized that I had originally seen this in a wedding after all and THEN I stalked down the location.  How silly of me to think it was the other way around. 

This Washington state treehouse bed and breakfast makes for a very rustic/romantic backdrop for some nuptials. Hollin and Erin seemed to think so at least...

A bride with tights is a bride after my own heart.  How fun would it be to have a rehearsal dinner around a campfire the night before?  S'more's anyone?!

Now, what would bridesmaids want to wear for an outdoor (under twinkle lights if I had it my way) wedding?  I went straight to Sohomode for custom dress suggestions.  The ones I originally saw, well they were sold out.  BUT since they are all custom, seems like you could get them made again in the same color schemes.
